Tigerwood 9-15-15

Goncalo Alves, also known as Tigerwood or South American Zebrawood originates on the East Coast of Brazil. Huge logs up to six feet in diameter are available, but these large logs usually lack the beautiful dark streaking that makes this wood so desirable. Naturally oily, the wood is dense and takes an incredible polish. We have an exclusive arrangement with several large Brazilian sawmills to pull the most colorful and figured wood for our customers! This is usable for pens, knives, furniture, pistol grips, turned boxes, bowls, peppermills, intarsia, inlay, and many other fancy applications!

This beautiful turning stock is completely wax sealed. It is one of the most exotic woods from Brazil. Its colors, patterns & figure set it aside from all others. Most blanks are free of defects but may contain a slight surface check or minor blemish that will turn away. Pin holes are present in many of these pieces that have sapwood, as well as small checks along live edges. This is outstanding material! It has been air dried for 3 years, it may contain residual moisture. This material is cut into practical sizes for every day turning projects! Tigerwood is one of our owner’s FAVORITE exotics!
