Brazilian Louro Itauba is a dense, durable, and fine grained hardwood. The wood colors are a warm golden yellow to beige aging to black/brown after exposure. The wood mills easily, glues well, and takes a nice polish. There is a medium blunting effect on tools due to the silica content so carbide or hardened steel blades give best results when cutting. Itauba is slightly greasy or oily feeling to the touch due to resins. The trees are large, up to 120 ft. and up to 29 inches in diameter!Trunks are straight and round which make this an ideal wood for making beautiful bowl, spindles, and other fine turned articles.
