Collection: Santos Mahogany

Santos Mahogany (Myroxylon balsamum) has rich reddish-brown or purplish-brown coloring. Also known as Cabreuva, the wood has a similar grain structure and appearance to true Mahogany. The wood is slightly denser than Mahogany and is easily worked with power tools. The pores in the grain are smaller than Walnut. The pleasant, aromatic fragrance smells more like a Rosewood than the majority of true rosewoods (which are Dalbergia genus). Ribbon-figured grain is present in quarter sawn lumber due to the interlocked grain structure. Lumber is produced in widths of 4-8", with wider widths being scarce. The tree ranges from Cuba south to Argentina.
