Collection: Eastern Red Cedar

Eastern Red Cedar, Juniperus virginiana, grows to heights of 20 to 85 ft. tall with trunks from 12 to 36 inches in diameter. The planting of Eastern Red Cedar trees was sanctioned during the Dustbowl as a part of the Prairie States Forest Project to prevent soil erosion and provide windbreaks. This species is slow growing, dense, and decay resistant, producing high quality lumber that mills and machines well for a softwood. Perhaps the most recognizable feature of the lumber is the pleasant aroma that makes this species perfect for linen closets and cedar chests.  Other uses include fence posts, longbows, cedar oil, and many other woodworking projects. The reddish-purple color with contrasting sapwood along with fine, even texture, and modest pricing make this wood a top pick for woodworkers.
