Goncalo Alves, also known as Tigerwood or South American Zebrawood originates on the East Coast of Brazil. Huge logs up to six feet in diameter are available, but these large logs usually lack the beautiful dark streaking that makes this wood so desirable.  Naturally oily, the wood is dense and takes an incredible polish.  We have exclusive arrangements with most of the large Brazilian mills to pull the most colorful and figured wood for our customers!  This is usable for pens, knives, pistol grips, turned boxes, bowls, peppermills, intarsia, inlay, and many other fancy applications!

The 8/4 material has been air dried for 1+ year. The 4/4 material has been kiln dried and is ready to use. May have planer skip. See white crayon mark for checks. On the thicker pieces you should expect some end checks up to 1/2″ on each end. There will be some surface checking that are between 1″ and 3″. These checks are hard to see because they are usually adjacent to one of the stripes. Nice stripes & curly grain! Prime material. Quarter sawn, fiddleback, and great stripes! The owner has flown all over Brazil and this is the nicest Tigerwood you will ever find! Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

W34176: Heavy fiddleback and stripes. Perfectly quarter sawn. Surface checking on sapwood edge on the right side of the piece. These are about 1/4″ deep. There is a 4″ surface check on the numbered face about 1-1/2″ from the sapwood edge. Great billet for knives, pistol grips, boxes, ukuleles, shotgun fore end,  etc.
W34177: Quarter sawn with fiddleback. There are interesting stripes on this piece.
